(The Spread) – Week 1 of the 2012 CFL Regular Season kcks off tonight with two matchups. Let’s check out the odds.
At 7:05PM ET the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will host the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The Tiger-Cats opened as a 7-point favorite while the over/under is currently sitting at 50.5 points.
Hamilton finished the 2011 season with an 8-10 record, which placed the Tiger-Cats third in the East Division. The Roughriders slumped to a 5-13 finish and wound up in dead last in the West.
In its two preseason games this year, Saskatchewan was routed 44-10 by B.C. and then lost 33-31 to Calgary. Hamilton, meanwhile, lost 29-24 to Toronto before beating Winnipeg, 26-25. The two teams split their regular season meetings last year, with the Tiger-Cats crushing the Roughriders 33-3 in the first matchup and Saskatchewan returning the favor with a 19-3 victory against Hamilton in the second meeting.
The second game tonight features the defending Grey Cup champion B.C. Lions hosting the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the team the Lions beat in the championship last November. After B.C. thumped Winnipeg 34-23 in the Grey Cup last season, the Lions have opened as a 7.5-point favorite in the 9:05PM ET game tonight. The over/under total for this game is 51.
The Lions lost their first five games last year before rattling off 11 wins in their final 13 games to win the West Division. The Blue Bombers, meanwhile, finished 10-8 and won the East Division, but they proved to be no match for B.C. in the Grey Cup. That said, Winnipeg did beat B.C. in the teams’ only two regular season meetings of 2011.
