LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – Where will LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony play their first games in the 2014-15 NBA season?
According to Howard Beck on Twitter, the Rockets will go all out in their pursuit of LeBron during free agency. Houston is also reportedly interested in adding Carmelo and Chris Bosh if they’re unable to pry James away from Miami. In order to acquire LeBron, Howard suggests that the Rockets would need to trade Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin. After they landed James Harden and Dwight Howard the past two offseasons, it’s hard to rule the Rockets out from making another big splash.
It should be noted that Pat Riley told the media earlier this week that the Heat signing Anthony this summer is “a pipe dream.” Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports also noted not too long ago that the Rockets have also gathered “significant momentum as a preferred destination” for Anthony. Either way it looks like we’re in store for another wild NBA offseason.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Heat are still the favorites to keep LeBron at 1/4 odds. The Cleveland Cavaliers, meanwhile, have 5/1 odds to re-sign LeBron, while the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers are both 9/1 long shots and the Rockets have odds of 19/2. The Lakers are currently 20/1 to land LeBron this offseason.
Meanwhile, the Bulls are the current favorites to sign Anthony at 3/2 odds, while the Rockets are 7/4 and the Lakers are 3/1. The Knicks are 4/1 to re-sign Anthony and the Heat are long shots at 6/1 to have Carmelo in uniform for the first game of the 2014-2015 NBA season.
