Oddsmakers have installed the Heat as an early 3-point favorite over the Thunder for Game 5 on Thursday at 9:00PM ET. The total is currently sitting at 193.5 and of the current wagers placed on this game, less than 60% favor the Thunder and the points.
The Heat moved within a victory of winning this year’s NBA Finals when they beat the Thunder 104-98 in Game 4 on Tuesday. Miami covered the 3-point spread while the combined score sailed over the posted total of 192.5. The Thunder wasted Russell Westbrook’s 43-point effort in the loss, while LeBron James finished with 26 points and both Dwyane Wade and Mario Chalmers had 25 points apiece.
Thus far, the Heat have covered the spread in three of the first four games, including three in a row. They lost 105-94 as a 5-point underdog in Game 1 of this series but have since covered as a 5.5-point dog (Game 2), a 4-point favorite (Game 3) and as a 3-point favorite (Game 4).
If the Thunder want to claw their way back into this series then they’ll need to provide Westbrook and Kevin Durant with more help. James Harden has been a ghost in the Finals thus far, and is coming off an 8-point performance in Game 4. When you look at the Heat, they’ve gotten contributions from six or seven players so one could make the argument that Miami, as a team, simply wants it more. We’ll see if OKC proves that theory wrong on Thursday.
