ELMONT, NY (The Spread) – When it comes to the prop odds of which horse will finish in the top 3 in this year’s Belmont Stakes, Triple Crown contender I’ll Have Another has the best odds.
For the prop, “Odds to Finish in the Top 3” in the 2012 Belmont Stakes, I’ll Have Another is 1/3 while Dullahan is 6/5. Union Rags is 3/1 and Atigun is 10/1. Five Sixteen is 15/1, Guyana Star Dweej is 18/1 and Optimizer is 15/2. Paynter is 12/5, Street Life is 7/2 and Unstoppable U is currently 9/1. Ravelo’s Boy is 15/1 to finish in the top 3 while My Adonis is 9/1.
Currently, I’ll Have Another is a massive 6/5 favorite to win Saturday’s Belmont Stakes at 6/5 while Dullahan is 4/1 and Union Rags is 5/1. Paynter is 8/1, Street Life is 12/1 and Optimizer is 25/1. My Adonis and Unstoppable U are both 30/1 to win, respectively, while Atigun is 35/1. Five Sixteen and Ravelo’s Boy are both 50/1, respectively, while Guyana Star Dweej is 60/1.
In seven career races I’ll Have Another has five victories and hasn’t lost in his last four outings. He’s coming off wins at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness and will attempt to become the first Triple Crown winner since 1978. Dullahan and Union Rags poise the biggest threat considering they’re both fresh and have a good track record against graded competition, although Union Rags is coming off a disappointing seventh place finish at the Kentucky Derby. (Dullahan finished third behind I’ll Have Another and Bodemeister.)
Paynter might be one of the surprises as he’s won two of his four career races and finished second in the Grade III Derby Trial on April 28. If you’re looking for a deep sleeper to finish in the top 3, take a look at Unstoppable U. He has yet to compete against graded competition and has only competed in two races but he won them both. (One was a Maiden Special Weight and the other was an Allowance.)
