LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – Who will bet he next full-time head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves? Let’s take a look at the odds.
Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman announced his retirement on Monday, capping a 23-year career that included 1,042 victories (which were good for eighth all-time), 16 playoff appearances and a pair of Western Conference titles.
“It’s time,” Adelman said at his press conference on Monday. “It’s time for me to step aside. It’s time for someone else to come in.”
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Flip Saunders is a 3/2 favorite to become the next head coach of the T-Wolves. Fred Hoiberg, Billy Donovan and Tom Izzo are all 4/1, respectively, while Lionel Hollins and Stan Van Gundy are both 5/1, respectively. Jeff Van Gundy has the longest odds to becoming the next head coach for Minnesota at 14/1.
On Wednesday, Saunders downplayed the idea that he might return to the Wolves’ bench following Adelman’s retirement on ESPN Radio’s “Mike & Mike.”
“I don’t really see that scenario,” Saunders said, insisting that his duties running the Wolves’ front office were too consuming to make a coaching comeback.
“I know it’s been brought up a lot, and you never say never, but we have a lot of things going on here,” Saunders continued. “I’ve got a lot on my plate, and that’s enough right now to deal with.”
