(The Spread) – In wake of Bobby Petrino getting the ax in Fayetteville, oddsmakers have released odds for who will be the next head coach at Arkansas.
New Arkansas State head coach and former Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn is the favorite to replace Petrino at 5/2, while current UAB head coach Garrick McGee has the next best odds at 3/1. (McGee was also Arkansas’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach before UAB hired him.)
Continuing with the odds, Skip Holtz is 7/2 to become the next head coach at Arkansas, while Mario Cristobal is 5/1. Kirby Smart is 6/1 while Gary Patterson is 10/1 and both Butch Davis and Charlie Strong are 15/1, respectively. Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson is a 20/1 long shot to take over the Razorbacks.
Holtz is currently the head coach at South Florida and was also the head coach at East Carolina from 2005 through 2009. Cristobal has been the head coach at Florida International since 2007 while Smart has been Nick Saban’s assistant coach at Alabama since 2007. Patterson, meanwhile, is the head coach at TCU while Davis has been out of the coaching ranks since serving as North Carolina’s head coach from 2007 through 2010. Strong is currently the head coach at Petrino’s former stomping grounds, Louisville.
Oddsmakers have also released odds for the prop, “What will happen next for Bobby Petrino?” Odds on “Member of NFL coaching staff” are –200, while “Member of NCAA coaching staff” are +150.
