(The Spread) – If you bet the unders during yesterday’s Major League Baseball action, chances are you came out on top.

Out of the seven MLB games played on Thursday, five of the combined scores fell under their posted totals. This including the Tigers’ 3-2 win over the Red Sox (o/u 7), the Mets’ 1-0 win over the Braves (7), the Phillies’ 1-0 win over the Pirates (7), the Nationals’ 2-1 victory over the Cubs (6.5), and the Reds’ 4-0 blanking of the Marlins (7.5).

It’s not uncommon to see the offenses struggle while the pitchers flourish in the first week of the MLB season. Hitters are generally behind the pitchers when the regular season starts, because the weather is cooler and the hitters haven’t seen enough quality at bats in spring training. (Pitchers work on their mechanics, location and new pitches during the spring, so hitters aren’t seeing their “good stuff” until the regular season starts.)

That said, oddsmakers seemingly aren’t adjusting to the low scores. A quick look at Friday’s games reveals some rather high totals, including in the White Sox-Rangers matchup (9.5), the Twins-Orioles game (9), and the Rockies-Astros contest (8). Of course, the Dodgers-Padres total is listed at 6, while the Mariners-A’s total is sitting at 6.5.

Below are the rest of Friday’s opening MLB lines.
