(The Spread) – Will fired Rutgers coach Mike Rice re-emerge at a Division I college basketball program next year? Let’s check out the odds.

Rice was fired as the men’s basketball coach at Rutgers University after video evidence emerged of him shoving, grabbing and throwing balls at players while also using gay slurs during practice. Tim Pernetti also resigned as Rutgers’ athletic director after facing heat over why Rice retained his job for as long as he did.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the odds for whether or not Rice will be coaching at a Division 1 program for game one of the 2014-2015 season are currently sitting at 4/1 for “yes” and 1/6 for “no.” While the odds suggest that Rice won’t be coaching again anytime soon, one would imagine that he’ll be hired at a smaller program in two or three years.

Meanwhile, Bovada.lv also have listed odds about whether or not Brittany Griner will be drafted or get a tryout with an NBA team before the 2013-2014 season. The odds for “Yes” are 2/1 while the odds for “No” are 1/3. The 6-foot-8 three-time All-American and Big 12 player of the year dominated women’s college basketball with her size and athleticism, scoring 3,283 points and blocking 748 shots over her career. She also had 18 dunks, including 11 her senior season.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban recently said that he would be willing to give Griner the opportunity to prove that she could play in the NBA.

"If she is the best on the board, I will take her," Cuban said. "I've thought about it. I've thought about it already. Would I do it? Right now, I'd lean toward yes, just to see if she can do it. You never know unless you give somebody a chance, and it's not like the likelihood of any late-50s draft pick has a good chance of making it."
