Today is finally the day for NASCAR fans, the unofficial start to the 2008 Sprint Cup Season. Tonight 23 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers will take the track at the Daytona International Speedway for the 30th Annual Budweiser Shootout. Tonights field is comprised of Bud Pole Award winners from the 2007 Nextel Cup Season and previous Bud Shootout winners.

Now that we have that out of the way, here are the picks.

Best Bets

Take Tony Stewart 6/1 currently at BodogLife.com ($1 bet pays $6)

Stewart is a 3 time winner of the Bud Shootout and was running well in yesterday's final practice before getting tangled up with Kurt Busch in an incident on the back stretch. We like his chances here tonight if he can keep his temper under control.

Take Dale Earnhardt Jr. currently 7/2 at BodogLife.com ($2 bet pays $7)

How can you not take Dale Jr. even though he is with a new team and with a new car he is with the best team with the best cars. He is his fathers son at these restrictor plate tracks and has tested and practiced well all through the week. It may be wishful thinking to believe he can get it done in the first race with his new team but we aren't going to bet against him

Take Jimmie Johnson currently 11/2 at BodogLife.com ($2 bet pays $11)

Great price here on the reigning Cup Series champion. Johnson only has one win at Daytona but you could make an argument that he should have at least a couple more. His average finish is 12th at Daytona and there are only 23 other cars on the track tonight!

Take Kasey Kahne currently 25/1 at BodogLife.com ($1 bet pays $25)

This is most likely a pipe dream and if you only had the money to bet 3 picks we would say leave this one be. But just for s-n-g's we have to take the Bud Car in the Bud Shoot Out. In case it's rigged we don't want to be the one who is not holding the bag (of money).
