In the end the New England Patriots were just too much for the San Diego Chargers, despite keeping it within a touchdown for much of the game. Everyone pretty much knew the Patriots would win their 18th game of the 2007-2008 NFL football season. Most also felt they would also cover the -14 point spread set by oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog in Sunday's AFC Championship Game.
The Pats have now failed to cover the spread in 8 of their last 9 games.
TheSpread.com's NFL Public Betting information showed that 54% of more than 120,000 point bettors felt that New England would win the game by 14 points or more over the San Diego Chargers. Unexpected turnovers by New England however assured that the Chargers would not have any trouble covering the spread against the Patriots even if they couldn't win the game.
The Patriots victory is their 8th point spread loss making them 10-8 ats as they head into Super Bowl XLII to face the winner of the New York Giants, Green Bay Packers Game. While they covered the game against New England, the Chargers point spread victory against the Patriots will conclude their season at 14-5 against the spread and 13-6 overall.
Sunday's 2008 AFC Championship Game also went under the total number of points which was 48 according to Bodog oddsmakers. Final score was New England 21, San Diego 12.
New England will move on to play in Super Bowl XLII February 3, 2008 in Glendale, Arizona. The Patriots will play the New York Giants and Bodog Oddsmakers have already made New England 14-point favorites.
