| Padres expected to extend Black's contract |

SAN DIEGO (AP) -It looks like Padres manager Bud Black is going to get a contract extension. Despite having an overall losing record in three seasons, Black apparently has done enough to impress new CEO Jeff Moorad, the head of an ownership group that has acquired 35 percent of the team from John Moores. An extension for Black is ``likely at some point,'' Moorad said in a text message to The Associated Press on Friday night. The prospect of an extension for Black was first reported by Yahoo.com. Black is 186-218 in three seasons, including 34-45 this year. San Diego was 89-74 in his first season in 2007, including a 13-inning loss in a wild-card tiebreaker game at Colorado. Black was hired after Bruce Bochy left following the 2006 season. |
