EDS: Will be UPDATED. By The Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) -Franklin Gutierrez and Russell Branyan homered and Seattle snapped New York's seven-game winning streak with an 8-4 victory Thursday night. Ichiro Suzuki hit a two-run double and Chris Woodward added two RBIs as the Mariners handed CC Sabathia (7-5) his second loss in 11 starts. Seattle won in the Bronx for the first time since Sept. 3, 2007, ending a 10-game road losing streak against the Yankees. Gutierrez had three hits and Branyan launched his 20th homer in the ninth inning, a two-run drive off right-hander Alfredo Aceves that made it 8-4. Miguel Batista (5-2) pitched two hitless innings to win in relief of Jason Vargas, who lasted four innings with flu symptoms. Hideki Matsui homered and drove in three runs for New York, while Robinson Cano had three hits. Sabathia was pulled with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth. He allowed six runs and 10 hits, striking out eight. White Sox 4, Royals 1 dominant into the ninth inning, allowing six hits and a run, and Chicago got its sixth straight victory. Now 20-8 lifetime against Kansas City, Buehrle started the ninth with a four-hit shutout but failed to get his first complete game since May 2, 2008, when Alberto Callaspo doubled and scored on David DeJesus' one-out double. Bobby Jenks got the last two outs for his 19th save in 21 chances. Jayson Nix hit a solo homer off Bruce Chen (0-2) as the Royals lost their sixth in eight games. They have scored only three runs in their last three games, all losses. Chen went six-plus innings plus two batters and gave up two runs and five hits. He was making his second major league start since undergoing Tommy John surgery in late 2007. |
